A total of 173 fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE) students from Pampanga State University (Pampanga State U) participated in a series of educational tours across various National Government Agencies and academic institutions in an off-campus activity conducted in two batches: the first from November 20 to 21 and the second from November 27 to 28, 2025.
The tour provided students with an immersive look into high-level technical operations at the Philippine Information Agency, the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA), the University of the Philippines Open University, and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Engr. Asil Kastle S. Dela Cruz, the BSCpE Program Chairperson, explained that the chosen institutions highlight the diverse applications of Computer Engineering across different sectors.
“The agencies were carefully selected to show students that Computer Engineering plays a vital role not only in industry but also in public service, research, education, and national development,” said Engr. Dela Cruz.
The initiative provided firsthand exposure to systems critical to national information management, mapping, digital learning, and disaster preparedness. By visiting these sites, the students observed how advanced computing and engineering principles are applied to real-world national services.
“I hope that students learned that beyond technical competence, we also carry professional responsibility, ethical accountability, and a sense of purpose in the field,” Engr. Dela Cruz added.
More than just an educational trip, the experience helped broaden the students' perspectives and boosted their motivation as they prepare for professional practice as future engineers.
