In commitment to promoting health advocacies by donating blood to save lives, a campus blood drive was held at the University Gymnasium on March 10, 2025.

The initiative is part of the Expanded Generating Blood (EGB) project, a partnership between the Occupational Safety and Health Office (OSHO) and the Extension Services Office (ESO), in cooperation with Pampanga Medical Specialist Hospital (PMSH).

“Mayroon tayong blood bank ang partner natin sa ngayon PMSH sila yung magiging blood bank natin na nagkaroon tayo ng Memorandum of Agreement signing dati na sinabi doon an magco-conduct tayo ng blood-letting dito then mayroon percentage ng blood tayong makukuha na maitatago sa kanilang hospital,” Rhiziel Manalese, Director of OSHO, said in an interview.

Manalese further explained that if a DHVSU student or an employee’s immediate family member needs blood, they may proceed to the ESO or OSHO for assistance to ensure that the DHVSU community has access to a blood supply when needed.

Upon initial observation, the target number of donors was 100, but as of 10 o’clock in the morning, more than 100 individuals had already registered.

In an interview with Jan Alyssa Gonzales, one of the blood donors, she shared her experience and what motivated her to donate blood.

“Naisipan ko din po mag donate today, kasi gusto ko din po makatulong sa ibang tao tulad ng situation ng lolo ko [na nangailangan ng dugo noon] and advantage din po sa pagbibigay ng dugo in case na mangangailangan ka ng dugo may makukuhanan ka po,” she said.

The EGB project consists of three sub-projects, primarily focused on health education about bloodletting.

The bloodletting project is also in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences, the Health Services Unit, and the Office of Student Affairs.
